def __init__(self, parent=None) -> None:
super().__init__(parent=parent)
self.setupUi(self)
self.setModal(True)
self.setWindowFlag(Qt.FramelessWindowHint)

# When rejected, self.result() is 0.
self.cancelPushButton.clicked.connect(self.reject)

self._settings = None

def setSettings(self, settings):
# Copies settings. Do not edit settings.
self._settings = copy.deepcopy(settings)

def getSettings(self):
return self._settings

...

self.settingsDialog = SettingsDialog(self)
self.settingsDialog.finished.connect(self.finishedSettingsDialog)

self.settingsPushButton.clicked.connect(self.openSettingsDialog)

def openSettingsDialog(self):
self.settingsDialog.setSettings(self.settings)
self.settingsDialog.open()

def finishedSettingsDialog(self):
if self.settingsDialog.result():
self.settings = self.settingsDialog.getSettings()

if __name__ == "__main__":
app = QApplication(sys.argv)
